About
Lane County Farmers Market
The Lane County Farmers Market can trace its beginnings back to the first public market in this part of Oregon, the Eugene Producers Market, which began in 1915. Today, the Market is comprised of over 85 growers and producers. Membership is open to anyone who is an Oregon resident and complies with our rules. Our basic rule is that you must grow and produce anything you bring to the Market yourself.
The mission of the Lane County Farmers Market is to preserve and strengthen the local farm and food economy by providing vibrant public marketplaces for farmers, food artisans and our community.
Shopping at the Lane County Farmers Market is a terrific way to support local agriculture. Here's a few reasons to buy locally grown food:
-
Locally grown food tastes better because it's fresher.
-
Locally grown produce is usually sold within 24 hours of being harvested. Now that is fresh!
-
Local produce is not only better for you, it's better for the environment. Buying local significantly decreases the number of miles food has to travel before being eaten, which means less fossil fuels are used and greenhouse gas emissions are reduced. Many vendors are also certified organic, so they use sustainable agricultural practices.
-
By buying local, you are supporting local farm families and producers, and providing jobs within our community.
-
Buying local keeps more dollars in our community, thus strengthening our local economy.
-
Local produce is nutritious and encourages healthy eating, especially important for kids.
Thanks for your commitment to a healthy lifestyle and your support of local farmers!
